"So, in order to feel more, and to feel more like ourselves, we connect.", said Sherry Turkle. But with whom do we connect? Or should I ask, with what means do we connect?
With the presence of mobile phones, tablets, laptops, computers, and such, we tend to give more attention to them than making time in conversing face to face to our friends, workmates, families, or to other people. Indeed, it does make communications easier and convenient for us. We can reach people we want to connect with even those from afar. However, by connecting virtually, we lost connection to the reality. For that, the biggest question I can come up with, is why? Why would people rather chose to communicate through modern technology? Are we comforted as we used those "little devices"?

ReplyDeleteIt may be, because of easier and faster way to connect and communicate but we don't even notice that this technologies made us isolated to each other. Instead of having real conversations when we're together with our family or friends rather we're using gadgets. Thus, we can't practice our communication skills.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this, Bam. Without knowing the proper use of technology, it would really isolate us to others.

DeleteTechnology is really a convenient way to communicate, but it alarming how it lessens the quality of connection. The more people use digital communication, the more interpersonal communication skills decline.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Kimberly. Indeed, the more we use modern communications, the more we would be lacking actual communication skills.
