A cup of tea

Today's cup of tea:

"We can’t deny that right now we have the most advanced methods of real time communication in existence, with the ability to stay connected to everyone and everything, wherever we are in the world — so why are so many of us feeling more disconnected from the world and others than ever?", Ross Stevenson stated as his insight to our relationship with technology and each other.

Today's generation have the access to internet and most have their own gadgets, so it is normal for us to communicate through it. We use electronics even with the people we communicate is/are near to us, literally. It is easy for us to share our thoughts. It is much more convenient for us  in engaging to a conversation. Actually, those I've said are just few of the reasons.

Yes, the modern technology may have given us the advantage and benefit, but there are things unseen and ignored.

Are you truly connected? You may comment down your thoughts. ✍

  1. Despite connecting through mobile devices we are still not truly connected with one another since it lacks the true meaning of understanding and knowing one another

    1. I agree with this, Shania. Indeed, modern technology made us more disconnected to reality.

The unseen and ignored

The unseen and the ignored because "we flew from conversation." some ideas are also taken from the work of Sherry Turkle, "The Flight from Conversation". 🧷 we isolate ourselves, instead of truly connecting 🧷 we thought we are comforted, but the truth is we're talking with robots. 🧷 we are slowly letting the technology control us 🧷 we reduce the real human contact 🧷 we tend to be more lazy and waste most of our time especially on social media 🧷 we neglect the essence of true interactions for online technological connections And the list goes on. How about you? Do you have any idea about the negative effects of modern technology? Feel free to share your thoughts by commenting. ✍ Reference: Akram, W., & Kumar, R. (2017). People and Communications

"So, in order to feel more, and to feel more like ourselves, we connect." , said Sherry Turkle. But with whom do we connect? Or should I ask, with what means do we connect? With the presence of mobile phones, tablets, laptops, computers, and such, we tend to give more attention to them than making time in conversing face to face to our friends, workmates, families, or to other people. Indeed, it does make communications easier and convenient for us. We can reach people we want to connect with even those from afar. However, by connecting virtually, we lost connection to the reality. For that, the biggest question I can come up with, is why? Why would people rather chose to communicate through modern technology? Are we comforted as we used those "little devices"? To those who are seeing this, you may comment down your reasons. ✍ image source: Invision App, Pinterest
